About Liz Chang
Liz Chang is an associate therapist at Holding Hope MFT and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of New York. She provides services to individuals, couples, and families in an effort to decrease their anxiety and/or depression while working towards helping them build more authentic connections with themselves and with others.
Liz believes that emotional attunement, collaboration, reflection and possibility for change are key elements to effective therapy. Through her calming nature, Liz communicates in a way that provides a safe and non-judgmental environment while working collaboratively to help her clients reach their therapeutic goals. As a marriage and family therapist, Liz creatively utilizes clients’ family history, social and cultural contexts, relationship dynamics, personal identity and past narratives as tools to increase self-awareness and to create a deeper understanding and acceptance of the self.
Prior to entering private practice, Liz provided therapy in a variety of settings including community-based outpatient treatment agencies, a private health clinic, schools, and an outpatient addiction treatment center. Providing strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally competent therapy is very important to Liz as she constantly strives to do her best to hold safety for her clients. Liz is also experienced in implementing a variety of family systems therapy modalities as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing techniques.
