What is Therapy?

Therapy is a process of transformation that has the opportunity to lead us to our greatest selves. Many people often seek help when they are going through a transitional time in their lives such as a new job, move, break-up/divorce, coping with loss, or struggling with symptoms of anxiety and depression. Others come to therapy because they find themselves feeling stuck repeating negative patterns and want to learn new ways of interacting with others.

When Should I Start Therapy?

While therapy can be challenging, clients who start counseling often find comfort in knowing therapy is a safe place for them to talk about their thoughts and feelings separate from family and friends. Many clients also say they feel relieved to know they are taking an active role in their lives by dedicating time each week to improve the issue. Whether you have past experience in therapy or whether it’s your first time, we will work collaboratively to develop a treatment plan that aligns with your goals for therapy while working at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.

It’s normal to need help at times especially when life gets the better of us. While we all strive for internal peace and happiness, part of being human is struggling to cope with painful emotions and learning how to manage stressful situations. The important thing is choosing not to suffer alone.

It takes a great deal of strength and courage to seek help, especially at a time when we are our most vulnerable. However in doing so, we send ourselves the message that we are important and worthy of growth.

Research suggests that a great deal of success in therapy is dependent on the trust that exists between therapist and client. Since what we talk about in therapy requires an enormous amount of vulnerability, it’s important to choose a therapist that is non-judgmental, empathetic, and makes you feel safe and understood.
